KS1–KS3 · GCSE · Functional Skills · Resits · Adults · From £25 per hour · Online across the UK
Former college maths lecturer
I taught maths in Further Education for years, supporting learners of every age and ability. You are learning with a qualified, experienced teacher.
Patient and never judgemental
No question is too small and nothing is rushed. Students tell me I make maths feel far less scary and much easier to follow.
Built around you
Every lesson is personalised to how you learn. I adapt the way I explain things until it clicks, then we build from there.
Online lessons across the UK
One-to-one lessons online, wherever you are in the country. Easy to fit around school, work and family life, with no travel needed.
How I can help
Whether it is building early confidence at Key Stage 1 to 3, helping your child through GCSE, getting the Functional Skills qualification you need, or coming back to maths as an adult, every lesson is one-to-one and built around you.
Friendly, one-to-one support that helps your child understand the topics they find hardest, feel calmer about exams, and move up the grades.
Friendly support for younger learners, from the very first numbers through to early secondary, building confidence and strong foundations.
Practical, real-world maths for Levels 1 and 2, taught at a pace that suits you. Ideal if you need the qualification for work, college, or an apprenticeship.
Coming back to maths after a long time away? I will meet you where you are, with no pressure and no judgement, and help you feel capable again.
If maths did not go to plan last time, a fresh, supportive approach can change everything. We focus on the gaps and turn them into strengths.
Past papers, exam technique, and calm, practical strategies to manage nerves, so you walk in feeling ready rather than worried.
Why choose me
I am not a strict, old-fashioned tutor. I am a warm, professional teacher who helps you understand maths without the fear. As a former Further Education Mathematics lecturer, I have spent years helping learners of all ages and abilities, from nervous teenagers to adults returning to study, and I have seen how quickly confidence grows when someone explains things clearly and kindly.
Many of my students arrive convinced they are simply "no good at maths". They are almost always wrong. Usually a few key ideas were never explained in a way that made sense to them. Once we fix that, the subject stops feeling like a wall and starts feeling like something they can actually do.
Every lesson is calm, encouraging and tailored to you. I adapt the way I explain things to suit how you learn, celebrate the progress you make, and keep the focus on building real, lasting confidence, not just getting through the next test.
What you can expect
The aim is never just a better grade. It is a learner who feels calmer, more capable and more in control of maths.
How lessons work
No pressure and no jargon. Just a clear, relaxed way to get started and see if we are a good fit.
What students and parents say
Jill completely changed how my daughter feels about maths. She went from dreading it to actually feeling confident before her GCSE. Calm, patient and so encouraging.
I had not done any maths in over twenty years and felt embarrassed about it. Jill never once made me feel silly. I passed my Functional Skills Level 2 first time.
After failing my maths resit twice, I honestly thought I never would. Jill found the bits I kept getting stuck on and explained them in a way that finally made sense.

Not at all, and you are very welcome here. I work with a lot of adult learners and we always start from what you already know, at a relaxed pace, with no judgement. Most people are surprised by how quickly it starts to come back.
We focus on the topics you find tricky, work through clear examples together, then practise until they feel comfortable. I check in often, adapt my explanations to suit you, and make sure you leave each lesson feeling a little more confident.
