GCSE Maths Resit
A Fresh, Supportive Approach to Your GCSE Maths Resit
If maths did not go to plan last time, a calmer and more targeted approach can change everything. I am Jill Irving, a former Further Education maths lecturer, and I help students and adults resit GCSE maths by fixing the exact gaps that held them back, and rebuilding the confidence to walk in believing it can be different.
Students & adults · Summer and November sittings · Online across the UK · From £25 per hour
Resitting GCSE maths can feel discouraging, especially after more than one attempt. But a resit is rarely about ability. It is usually a handful of topics that never quite clicked, plus a bit of exam nerves, and both of those can be fixed.
Whether you are a student resitting at college or an adult preparing as a private candidate, I will help you turn last time's weak spots into strengths, with patient, one-to-one online lessons built entirely around you.
How a resit works with me
From near miss to a confident pass.
Find out what went wrong
We start by pinpointing the exact topics and question types that cost you marks last time. A resit is rarely about ability, it is usually a handful of gaps plus a bit of exam nerves.
Fix the gaps properly
We work through those topics patiently, step by step, until they genuinely make sense, rather than papering over them.
Practise like the real thing
Plenty of past papers and exam-style questions, with feedback, so the resit feels familiar and your timing is solid.
Walk in calmer
We build practical strategies to handle nerves, so your next attempt feels very different from the last.
Not sure which route?
GCSE resit or Functional Skills?
Resitting GCSE maths is the right call for many people, but it is not the only option. Functional Skills Maths Level 2 is widely accepted in place of a GCSE grade 4 and is more practical and everyday in style, which suits a lot of adult learners. I tutor both, so in our free chat we can choose the route that gives you the best chance. You might also like my general GCSE maths tutoring page.
Common questions
GCSE maths resit questions.
How do I resit GCSE maths?
You can resit GCSE maths through a school or college if you are still in education, or as a private candidate at an approved exam centre if you are an adult. I help you prepare for the exam itself; in our first chat I can also point you towards how and where to enter.
When can I resit GCSE maths?
The main GCSE maths resit sittings are in the summer, with an additional November resit opportunity each year. We plan our lessons backwards from your chosen exam date so you are ready in good time.
Can adults resit GCSE maths?
Yes. A lot of the people I help with maths resits are adults who need a grade 4 or above for a course, a career change or a profession such as nursing or teaching. We work at a relaxed pace around your other commitments, with no judgement.
Is Functional Skills easier than resitting GCSE maths?
For some people, yes. Functional Skills Maths Level 2 is widely accepted in place of GCSE maths and is more practical and everyday in style. In our free chat I can talk you through both routes so you choose the one that fits you best.
How many lessons will I need?
It depends on how close you were last time and which topics let you down. After a quick diagnostic chat I will give you an honest estimate rather than a hard sell.
Are the lessons online?
Yes, every lesson is one-to-one and online, so you can prepare for your resit from home anywhere in the UK.
